My Profile

Foto de Diego

Diego Angeles Valdez

I am currently a Ph.D. student at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (UG) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for a double degree in Psychology, focusing on the study of neuropsychiatric disorders in humans and non-human animals. During my academic career, I obtained a Master's degree in Neurobiology and gained valuable experience at the National Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (LANIREM), the Neuroimaging Laboratory of the National Institute of Psychiatry (INPRFM) and the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG). My work at these institutions consisted of data acquisition, application of MRI studies and statistical analysis to investigate the neural correlates of various psychiatric disorders. My research involves advanced high-level statistical methods, MRI analysis and machine learning techniques to identify and characterise mental disorders. Throughout my academic career I have been actively involved in several projects including the identification of biomarkers in substance use disorders, specifically cocaine use disorder in humans and alcohol models in non-human animals. I have also worked on understanding the heterogeneity of depression by exploring psychopathological networks in humans.
